    Rules for Entries

    • Classes are open to residents of Langtree Parish and those outside the Parish who are members of Clubs or Societies that meet regularly. This includes Langtree Primary School, WI, History Group, Short Mat Bowls and children staying with family.
    • Maximum 1 entry per class.
    • Entry fee is 25p per exhibit. Under 12’s free in own classes but they may enter other classes on payment of the fee. All entry forms with correct fee to be returned to Old Rectory Langtree or box at the Parish Hall by 8pm on Thursday 14th August
    • Exhibits to be staged by 10.30am on 16th August. Doors open at 8.30am but will be locked at 10.30am.
    • No exhibitors or any other person except judges, stewards and committee members to be present during judging. Entries should not have been exhibited before.
    • Exhibitors must provide own vases, plates etc
    • All exhibits of Fruit, Flowers or Vegetables must be grown by the exhibitor. (Except flower arrangements)
    • Prizes in each class 1st £1.50p 2nd £1.00 3rd 50p. However, judges may withhold prizes if there are insufficient entries in any one class.
    • The decision of the judges is final.

    SECTION 1 -- VEGETABLES -- Classes 1-18
    Number of specimens required for each class in brackets

    1. Potatoes, of the same type (5)
    2. French / Green beans  (5).   
    3. Runner beans, (6)
    4. Carrots  (3)
    5. Beetroot, tops trimmed to 5cm (3)
    6. Onions sown from seed, trimmed and bound (3)
    7. Onions, sets, trimmed and bound (3)
    8. Courgettes, between 10cm & 20cm (4in - 8in) (3)
    9. Tomatoes, red, (Calyx attached) not including cherry (5)
    10. Tomatoes, cherry (not to exceed 35mm diameter) (5)
    11. Cucumber (2).
    12. Pepper, hot (chilli) or sweet, any colour (2)
    13. Jug of herbs minimum of four types (must be named)
    14. Selection of five kinds of vegetables – one of each displayed in a box or basket
    15. Any vegetable not listed in the classes above (1) (must be named)
    16. Longest Runner Bean
    17. Longest carrot
    18. One vegetable, one cut flower – of same or similar colour

     

    SECTION 2 -- FRUIT AND FLOWERS

    Classes 19 – 39

    1. Rhubarb, three sticks, with foliage trimmed to 5cm
    2. Apples- one or more varieties (6)
    3. Any other fruit, (to be named) ( 3)
    4. A plate of soft fruit with calyx (10)
    5. Rose, one specimen in a container, own foliage only.
    6. Spray of Cluster roses (1)
    7. Dahlias,( 3,) in a vase .(any type)
    8. Hydrangeas,( 3.)
    9. Sweet Peas, ( 5).
    10. Vase of mixed foliage
    11. French Marigolds ,(5.)
    12. Biggest hydrangea head
    13. 3 Hosta leaves – 1 or more variety
    14. Vase of mixed garden flowers (herbaceous perennials, annuals may include roses but no other shrubs
    15. Vase of mixed flowers may include shrubs predominately of one colour
    16. Collection of pollinator friendly flowers e.g., single dahlias, scabious, buddleia, yarrow, borage, lavender
    17. Any 1 individual bloom – not from the above.
    18. Pot Plant, flowering, pot up to 8 ins in diameter
    19. Pot Plant, foliage, pot up to 8 ins in diameter
    20. Collection of succulents/ cacti  in a pot/bowl pot up to 12 ins
    21. Cactus 1

     

    SECTION 3 -- FLORAL EXHIBITS -- Classes 40-42

    1. An arrangement – Using foliage only
    2. A miniature arrangement – maximum size 10cm X 10cm x 10cm
    3. Floating heads arranged for effect max size of container 9ins

     

    SECTION 4 -- CHILDREN'S -- CLASSES 43-63

    Age to be clearly stated on all entry forms in years and months. The colour classes and match boxes will be taken to the school.

    Age 4 and under

    1. A picture made using hand prints
    2. A collage made from leaves and grasses  
    3. A baby woodland animal made from fir cone(s)
    4. The longest dock leaf
        

    Ages 5-7 (key stage 1)

    1. A vehicle made from fruit/ vegetables
    2. My favourite fictional character – a model, drawing or collage
    3. A caterpillar made from egg boxes
    4. A 3D model of a tree made from recycled materials
    5. An item I made in the last year
    6. A plate of foraged blackberries
    7. Colouring picture  - August
    8. Use the empty match box provided. Fill it with items. How many?
       

    Ages 8 – 11 (Key stage 2) and Ages 12 – 14 (to be judged separately)

    1. Construct a diorama- Use a shoe box without the lid , place it on its long side and create an underwater scene. Max of 3 bought items may be included.
    2. Meal on a plate. What you like to eat. Painted, drawn or modelled stuck or placed on a paper plate.(No fresh food)
    3. Homemade biscuits (5)
    4. Colouring – Hello summer
    5. Photograph  Bugs or Beasties
    6. Photograph showing Action
    7. An item I have made in the last year
    8. Four small cakes baked and decorated
    9. How many items can I put in the match box provided?

     

    SECTION 5 -- Eats and Drinks -- Classes 64-83

    All exhibits in Classes 64 – 74 to be loosely covered in cling film.
    Recipes will be included with the print outs which will soon be delivered.

    1. A Victoria sandwich - 7” or 8” No cream, jam filled, dusted with sugar
    2. A carrot cake – set recipe
    3. Four decorated fairy cakes or cup cakes (judged on taste and decoration). Cupcakes, 4 (2 distinct types)
    4. Brownies, four pieces
    5. Shortbread, four pieces.
    6. Four ginger biscuits – set recipe
    7. Scones, plain, four.
    8. Quiche, any variety (18 - 20cm or 7 - 8 in)
    9. Tea loaf – baked in a loaf tin
    10. Bread any type, hand made
    11. Bread machine made
    12. One bottle of sloe gin
    13. One bottle of any other liqueur

     

    (Jams, Pickle, Chutney – 340gm (12oz) or 450grm (1lb) jar Classes 81 – 87)

    Entries will be judged on the content and overall presentation.
